What to Do Before Our Water Damage Experts Arrive

• Turn off the water. If severe, shut these off at the mains.
• Turn off the circuit breaker(s) and all electrical power to the affected area.
• Don't turn on overhead lights or any other electrical equipment.
• Call for emergency services where any the part of your physical plant is life-threatening. Meanwhile, keep personnel out of the problem area.
• Put all furniture you can't immediately move out of the area up on blocks or at least slip aluminum foil between the legs and carpet. This prevents carpet from being stained or staining any wooden furniture.
• Wipe down furniture, especially wood pieces. 
• Move any wet upholstery cushions to a location where they can get as much air as possible on all sides.
• Pin up draperies - these can be suspended from the curtain rod by hangers.
• Remove colored area rugs from wet carpeting. Hang these up to air dry or send to a professional cleaner.
• Pick up all possible furniture, equipment and anything you can.
